Alcohol Policy

Dear Corporate Member, Member and Daily Patron’sbecause-we-care

Sadly after a fatality occurred involving three young patrons and a neighbouring Muskoka golf course, unprecedented attention has been drawn to our industry with respect to alcohol.

Coupled with the tragic personal loss for the families is the liability impact surrounding this accident.  Although the driver did carry some responsibility, the golf course, it’s owner’s, directors and staff have also all been charged and named responsible in this case. The outcome is still pending final determination but whatever spawns from this case will set future precedent with respect to the risks involved in serving alcoholic beverages and the safety of guests.

Although we all wish this tragedy could have been avoided it has given us a call to immediate attention, to implement and enforce stricter liquor regulations on our property. On a go forward basis we are taking the “zero tolerance” approach more aggressively on outside alcohol and monitoring consumption of patron’s more diligently. All of our staff have been trained with Smart Serve and will be enforcing policy in each situation.

A few situations of outside alcohol have occurred recently here at Settlers’ Ghost. We are asking you as a corporate member to comply with these rules and to pass onto to your clients our Liquor policies while they are enjoying a game of golf. We are by no means trying to curb the fun of the game or affect your over all experience.  We are asking you to be an ambassador for us and to inform your guests so we will not jeopardize our Liquor License or put Settlers’ Ghost, it’s owners or staff at risk.

As management we feel these are acceptable warnings for a potentially very serious situation.

First warning for a guest coming to Settlers’ Ghost with outside alcohol will be asked to return it to their vehicle if they are nearby or the Marshal will remove it for safe keeping until after their game. Letter will follow to the holder of the Membership.
Second warning will result in the guest being asked to leave the property. Letter will follow to the holder of the Membership. Third warning will result in having the membership revoked. Final letter to follow.

Again we are just being proactive in ensuring the safety of you and your guests.

Yours truly,

Lana Stoddart
