Our Experience

Our wedding was one the more beautiful days of the year, and the setting of Settlers' Ghost made it even more so for both us and our guests.  The staff at Settlers' were very helpful and accommodating throughout the process leading up to the wedding, and the day itself.  The groomsmen and I enjoyed a round of golf, and the nearby, Carriage Ridge was very beneficial to transport our guest to and from our wedding and reception.  The landmarks such as the barn and beautifully laid out course made our photos priceless and even more stunning than we could have anticipated.  It truly was an amazing experience, and Settlers' Ghost made it more so.

Truly,Dave & Dionne Thomson

A Settler’s Ghost LOVE STORY:

Comp134In June of 2010 as Bill was enjoying his part time job as Marshall at Settlers Ghost Golf Course. One of his colleagues was enjoying a birthday party golf tournament during his shift. Following behind that tournament was a group of 7 ladies enjoying their own round of golf. The Starter that day warned Marshall Bill that these ladies did not hit the ball well off the 1st tee and that he should keep an eye on them as he was concerned about their pace of play. So as Bill was making his rounds he made a concerted effort to stop and watch the ladies play at their 3rd hole.

Now this is where Brenda took notice of Marshall Bill and made explicit comments to her married friends, sharing her observations. Bill chatted with the ladies, took note of their play and carried on. As it turned out …or was the “Spirit” influencing thing… Settler’s did not have a Marshall scheduled for the afternoon shift so they asked Bill to stay for the afternoon. As he didn’t have plans that afternoon he accepted.

Comp037At the turn, Bill encountered the group of 7 ladies again. He began noticing and was sensing that he was the topic of their conversation and attention. He responded in a friendly but professional manner, but if the truth be known, he too was curious about this group of ladies.

Bill’s shift ended when his colleagues’ tournament ended. Coincidentally, he was invited to join them for a great Settlers Ghost dinner … another moment where the “Spirit” may have been in control. The ladies still had 5 holes of golf to play.  At the end of Bill’s meal he noticed the group of 7 had just finished their round. Curiosity getting the better of him, along with a couple of glasses of courage under his belt, he went out to ask the ladies how they enjoyed their game. Their collective response was that they had a great time and were returning the next day for a second round asking if he would also be back. When Marshall Bill indicated he would not be returning, he heard “Brenda wants your phone number.” And all but one person disappeared. There was Brenda … left by her friends … sitting in a golf cart. Bill and Brenda got together, their first date being a long country ride on Bill’s Harley followed by several further dates of golf at Settler’s Ghost.

Comp148The romance continued and on August 10th of 2011 on the same golf course and at the 3rd hole … the one where Bill and Brenda first laid eyes on each other, Bill asked Brenda to marry him. Incidentally, four holes later and with heightened spirits, Bill shot a hole-in-one. The natural next step was that Bill and Brenda would marry in June of 2012 at Settler’s Ghost Golf Club. No traditional wedding for them. They planned and organized, with the able assistance of the Ghost staff, a shotgun, scramble tournament with 60 friends and family and slipped in a wedding ceremony to seal the deal. One hundred attended the reception/dinner of Sheppard’s Pie, Roast Chicken and Mary Lou’s infamous Bread Pudding with Carmel sauce – mmmh good!!!!

Nothing but fabulous comments of praise and enjoyment of the day were received. The guests found the event to be fun, casual and relaxed along with great food and service - a natural and perfect conclusion to a golf romance.
